According to Jon Heyman, the New York Post ( via Tweet ), the Mets have acquired catcher Michael Perez
in exchange for cash considerations. This is the second agreement between the two sides in the last two days.
Yesterday, the Pirates sent designated batter Daniel Vogelbach to New York.
Perez was assigned yesterday so the Mets' acquisition cost was minimal.
The Mets have assigned Travis Blankenhorn to the assignment roster in order to make room on their 40-man roster.
Per Tim Healey, Newsday Sports ( via Twitter ). Blankenhorn was recalled to the active roster yesterday.
This means that either Perez, Vogelbach, or Vogelbach will have a spot on their active roster.
Perez is a catching depth in the short-term, should Tomas Nido need to be on the injured reserve with a bruised hand.
Perez and Patrick Mazeika would then form the Mets' catching duo.
